The Mehta residence is optimally designed and exudes a sense of serenity
Neeta
Mehta's home in Andheri has been designed by architect Bhavisha Thakur.
The home has been designed in a way that ensures optimal use of space.
Even though it is contemporary, the Mehtas have been very Indian in
their ethos.
Lord Shrinathji's photo frame has been placed right
opposite the door so that the family members can offer namaskar before
leaving the house and thank the god on
returning home. There is a focus light on the frame and the sacred
place has been highlighted by adding lights in the flooring. The frame
has also managed to mentally divide the room into the seating and dining
 section.
The entire living room is very spacious and done up
very tastefully. The seating section has place for at least twelve
people to sit comfortably. The platform near the huge windows itself has
place for about six people to sit. One beautiful
feature of the home is the huge windows that spread across the breadth
of the room. The serenity attracts the viewers to sit and relax.
    The
room is very well lit and the lights can be changed according to the
mood. There is a provision for setting the lighting tone in a manner
that it gives out a very theatre like feeling.
"We like to sit together and watch movies," says Neeta. There is a wide LCD and a good audio system.
The seating is in the shades of cream and brown. A few gold colour
cushions and shiny blinds have managed to add a spark and break the
monotony. The aroma candles also add a very pleasant look to the house.
A small side table behind the sofa has been made especially to hide the telephone wires.
    In
the dining area, there is an eight seater dining table. Also, there is a
provision for atleast five people to sit on the platform near the
window. There is ample space for storage too. The dining section flaunts
 a collection of Neeta's crockery.
Though they did not get an
entire wall to create an accent, they have beautifully made a washbasin
corner in the burnt orange colour. The basin is made to look as though
they have joined several pebbles to give it the shape.
    The
bedrooms in the house follow a simple contemporary style of decor but
overall it is the living room that makes a lasting impact.
